Overview

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract and serves as a model for targeted therapy development 1. The advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting KIT/PDGFRA has significantly improved survival in both localized and advanced GIST 1.

  • Management of GIST patients should occur within multidisciplinary teams at reference centers 1.
  • Management

  • Tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting KIT/PDGFRA are used for both localized and advanced stages 1.
