Last edited: 4/10/2026

Overview

Rheumatoid lung disease encompasses a spectrum of pulmonary manifestations associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These can include interstitial lung disease, pleural effusions, nodules, and airway disease 1.

Diagnosis

  • Central nervous system rheumatoid meningovasculitis can present with seizures and cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities 1.
  • Infection should be excluded in patients with seizures and cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities in the context of RA 1.
  • Management

  • Corticosteroids and azathioprine therapy can resolve seizures and cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities in rheumatoid meningovasculitis 1.
  • Special Populations

  • No information available in the provided abstracts.
  • Key Recommendations

  • In patients with rheumatoid arthritis presenting with seizures and cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities, consider rheumatoid meningovasculitis after excluding infection 1. (Evidence: Weak)
  • Corticosteroids and azathioprine may be used to treat central nervous system rheumatoid meningovasculitis 1. (Evidence: Weak)
