Mitral annular ventricular tachycardia

Last edited: 4/10/2026

Overview

Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is a condition characterized by a separation between the mitral annulus and the left ventricular myocardium 1. It frequently co-occurs with mitral valve prolapse (MVP) 1. MAD is associated with an increased risk of complex ventricular arrhythmias (VA) and sudden cardiac death (SCD) 1.

Diagnosis

  • Complex ventricular arrhythmias are significantly higher in patients with MAD compared to those without MAD 1.
  • The composite outcome of complex VA and SCD is also higher in patients with MAD 1.
  • Management

  • Management strategies for ventricular arrhythmias in the context of MAD are not detailed in the provided abstracts.
  • Key Recommendations

  • The presence of mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is significantly associated with the development of complex ventricular arrhythmias 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
  • Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is significantly associated with an increased risk of the composite outcome of complex ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
