Overview

Postviral depression is a mood disorder that can occur following a viral infection. While the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, it is thought to involve inflammatory and immunological responses to the infection that affect brain function.

  • Among adolescents with HIV/AIDS, depression prevalence is higher in females (32.15%) than males (25.07%) 1.
  • Older adolescents with HIV/AIDS (aged 15-19 years) have a higher prevalence of depression (37.09%) compared to younger adolescents (aged 10-14 years) (29.82%) 1.
