Impetigo contagiosa gyrata

Last edited:

Clinical Presentation

The study reports on patients with progressive and enormous thickening and extraordinary strong gyration of the facial skin [PMID:17274933].

Management

In a study involving 8 patients, implantation of scalp skin expanders for 2-3 months, followed by excision of cutis verticis gyrata and application of expanded flaps, resulted in successful skin defect recovery without contractures or significant scarring [PMID:22052001].

Direct excision within the lines of tension resulted in significant reduction of facial skin distortion and thickening in all four patients [PMID:17274933].

Prognosis & Follow-up

The study reported that the expanded scalp flaps and hair regrowth were satisfactory, with no significant scarring or contractures observed post-surgery [PMID:22052001].

The quality of life was considerably improved in all patients following direct excision surgery [PMID:17274933].

Special Populations

This technique was successfully implemented in a cohort of patients specifically diagnosed with cutis verticis gyrata, indicating its applicability to this special population [PMID:22052001].
