Epidural supratentorial pyogenic abscess

Diagnosis

In a study of 122 patients with supratentorial lesions, MEP using electrical stimulation correctly identified lesions in 88.5% of cases, with false negatives predominantly seen in superficial lesions (21.5% missed). [PMID:9532431]

Magnetoelectric stimulation showed correct results in 89.3% of patients, with a notable false-negative rate of 10.7%, particularly affecting superficial lesions (18.6% missed). [PMID:9532431]

Differential Diagnosis

The study highlights that while MEP techniques are reliable for deep lesion assessment, they have limited utility in distinguishing superficial lesions, aiding in differential diagnosis between lesion depths. [PMID:9532431]
