Clinical Presentation
A male neonate presented with respiratory distress and early feeding problems, indicative of a retropharyngeal space mass [PMID:21994200].
Diagnosis
Intraoperative squash smears revealed glial cells with multiple cytoplasmic processes, along with clusters of cuboidal epithelial cells and ependymal structures, suggesting NGH or low-grade astrocytoma [PMID:21994200].
Differential Diagnosis
Immunohistochemical studies showed diffuse and strong staining for GFAP and S-100 protein, with focal positivity for synaptophysin and neurofilament, aiding in distinguishing NGH from other glial tumors [PMID:21994200].
