Epithelioid cell melanoma

Last edited: 4/10/2026

Overview

Epithelioid cell melanoma is a subtype of melanoma characterized by epithelioid morphology. CD146, a cell adhesion molecule first discovered in melanoma, has been established as a promoter of tumor progression and metastasis 1.

Diagnosis

  • CD146 expression is predominantly found in triple-negative breast cancer subtypes 1.
  • Breast tumors overexpressing CD146 have a higher risk of lymph node metastasis 1.
  • Management

  • High expression of CD146 was associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer 1.
  • CD146 may be a potential prognostic marker to predict metastatic potential and disease outcomes in breast cancer 1.
  • Key Recommendations

  • CD146 expression is associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
  • CD146 expression is predominantly found in triple-negative breast cancer subtypes 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
  • Breast tumors overexpressing CD146 have a higher risk of lymph node metastasis 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
