Diagnosis

Scheimpflug densitometry revealed significant COD decreases in specific corneal layers and zones post-scar formation, offering a quantitative method to differentiate between active ulcerative keratitis and healed scarring stages [PMID:38349421].

Management

Using Scheimpflug corneal densitometry (Pentacam® AXL), significant decreases in corneal optical density (COD) were observed in the periphery and outside the active ulcer area post-scar formation, providing an objective method for monitoring healing [PMID:38349421].

Prognosis & Follow-up

The 3rd-sorted COD in the anterior layer showed the highest diagnostic accuracy (AUC 0.709) for detecting COD reduction during the transition from ulcer to scar, indicating its utility in follow-up assessments [PMID:38349421].
