Overview
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) with adnexal differentiation refers to a rare subset of BCCs exhibiting features of hair follicle or sebaceous gland differentiation. These tumors are uncommon and often present on the head and neck 1.Diagnosis
Histopathological examination is required for diagnosis, identifying features of sebaceous differentiation within a BCC 1.
Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) should be considered and ruled out if suspected 1.Management
Complete surgical excision with microscopically controlled margins is the primary treatment modality 1.
Adjuvant or therapeutic radiotherapy may be considered 1.
For advanced, inoperable, or metastatic disease, management should be individualized by an interdisciplinary tumor board, potentially including local procedures, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy 1.
Close follow-up is recommended 1.Key Recommendations
Complete micrographically controlled surgery (MCS) of the primary tumor is the therapy of first choice for sebaceous gland carcinomas with adnexal differentiation 1. (Evidence: Expert opinion)
Muir-Torre syndrome should always be ruled out if suspected in cases of sebaceous gland carcinoma 1. (Evidence: Expert opinion)
Adjuvant or therapeutic radiotherapy may be considered for sebaceous gland carcinomas 1. (Evidence: Expert opinion)References
