Disorder of cardiac ventricle

Last edited: 4/10/2026

Overview

Disorders of the cardiac ventricle encompass conditions affecting the pumping chambers of the heart. Right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) and tricuspid regurgitation (TR) are associated with cardiovascular mortality in the general population and other cardiovascular diseases 1.

Diagnosis

  • Right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) and tricuspid regurgitation (TR) are assessed in patients with moderate-severe functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) undergoing MitraClip procedures 1.
  • RVD was present in 46.1% and moderate-severe TR in 29.2% of patients in a meta-analysis of studies on FMR treated with MitraClip 1.
  • Management

  • The MitraClip procedure is a treatment option for functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) 1.
  • Key Recommendations

  • Right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) is significantly associated with mortality in patients with functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) receiving the MitraClip procedure 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
  • Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) grade is associated with cardiovascular mortality in patients with functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) receiving the MitraClip procedure 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
