Aortic valve stenosis

Overview

Aortic valve stenosis (AVS) is a progressive narrowing of the aortic valve, leading to impaired blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta, commonly seen in elderly populations and associated with significant morbidity and mortality 1232.

Diagnosis

  • Echocardiography: Primary tool for assessing severity using valve area, peak velocity, and mean gradient 45.
  • Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE): Evaluates aortic valve area, peak velocity, and velocity ratio 4.
