Pathophysiology
Breast shape malformations, including deformities of the inferior breast pole, involve an altered relationship between the mammary parenchyma and the superficial fascial system (SFS) [PMID:9354603].
Management
Surgical correction for breast shape malformations includes releasing the glandular tissue from all connections with the surrounding tissues, which can sometimes reveal sufficient parenchyma volume without the need for implants [PMID:9354603].
In cases of hypoplasia of the breast or inferior quadrant hypoplasia, surgical management requires the use of an implant to achieve normal breast contour [PMID:9354603].
