Overview

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition that significantly impacts women's health and incurs substantial societal costs. Single-incision slings represent a minimally invasive surgical option for its treatment.

Diagnosis

  • Transperineal ultrasound has diagnostic value in patients with SUI 2.
  • Ultrasound parameters associated with SUI include reduced α angle, increased β angle at rest and during Valsalva, increased bladder neck descent, and larger hiatus area compared to the normal population 2.
  • Patients with SUI may have a slightly higher BMI than the normal population 2.
  • Management

  • Single-incision slings are a minimally invasive treatment option for SUI 1.
  • The use of polypropylene mesh in urogynaecology, including mid-urethral slings, is restricted in many countries 1.
  • Key Recommendations

  • Single-incision slings are a minimally invasive treatment option for stress urinary incontinence 1. (Evidence: Moderate)
  • Transperineal ultrasound has diagnostic value in the assessment of stress urinary incontinence 2. (Evidence: Moderate)
