Phacoantigenic uveitis

Overview

Phacoantigenic uveitis, a form of noninfectious uveitis, arises from lens protein dispersion during cataract surgery, leading to intraocular inflammation and potential severe complications if not promptly managed. 22

Diagnosis

  • Clinical Presentation: Presence of intraocular inflammation following phacoemulsification surgery.
  • Timing: Typically occurs within weeks post-surgery.
  • Diagnostic Tests:
  • - Fluorescein Angiography: Useful for detecting occult retinal vasculitis 59. - OCT: Evaluates retinal and choroidal thickness changes 33. - Imaging: Fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography to assess vascular involvement 22.
